ILO Expresses Satisfaction over Working Environment of EPZ

International Labour Organization (ILO) has expressed satisfaction over workers rights and peaceful working atmosphere of the EPZs. Newly appointed ILO Country Director for Bangladesh Mr. Tuomo Poutiainen made these remarks during visiting BEPZA Executive Office, Dhaka on 14 August 2018. The ILO country director hoped that joint collaboration of BEPZA and ILO would further improve competitiveness and working condition of the EPZs.
Major General Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan, BSP, ndc, psc, the Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) informed the overall scenario of BEPZA to the ILO Country Director. Mentioning Bangladesh EPZs as the ‘Bonanza for Investors’ he said that investors from 37 countries have set up industries in the EPZs. BEPZA is now prominent as a brand in the global market. Industrial friendly peaceful investment climate is the main attraction of EPZ and the key strength of EPZs is amicable cohesive teamwork & harmonious relations among Worker-Management-Owner, he added.
The Executive Chairman of BEPZA uttered that EPZs worker enjoy freedom of association. The workers elect representatives of Workers Welfare Association (WWA) by secret ballot. Presently 237 enterprises of EPZs have WWA who are functioning independently as CBA, he added.
