Our Contribution

Pioneering industrial growth
Since its inception in 1981, BEPZA has been at the forefront of Bangladesh’s industrialization. From the first EPZ in Chattogram (1983), BEPZA has created a globally trusted platform for both local and foreign investors.

Big impact from small land
BEPZA manages 8 EPZs and one Economic Zone on just 0.001% of Bangladesh’s land area (13.95 sq. km). Yet, these zones have attracted US$ 7.08 billion investment, including over US$ 5 billion in FDI—about one-sixth of Bangladesh’s total FDI. Investors from 38 countries choose BEPZA’s EPZs and EZ.

Nearly 20% of country’s total exports
BEPZA-managed EPZs have consistently contributed a significant share of Bangladesh’s export earnings. In FY 2024-25, EPZ exports reached US$ 8.22 billion, representing 17.03% of national exports. Since inception, cumulative exports have exceeded US$ 119 billion, contributing 16–20% of the country’s total exports annually, underscoring the zones’ vital role in strengthening Bangladesh’s foreign exchange earnings.

Employment & empowerment
BEPZA is a leading platform of job creation in Bangladesh. Currently, 533,527 workers are directly employed in its 8 EPZs and Economic Zone, while nearly 1 million additional jobs are generated indirectly. About 57% of workers are women, empowering them socially and economically.

Diversification beyond RMG
While 52% of EPZ industries are apparel-related, BEPZA has been a pioneer in export diversification. Today, EPZs produce a wide range of goods— footwear and leather goods, electronics, knitwear, caps, tent, metal products, agro products, fashionable wigs, marble tiles, surgical gown, coffin car parts, camera lenses, printer toners, bicycles, archery equipment for world competitions, and more. This diversification has enhanced Bangladesh’s “Made in Bangladesh” brand globally, reducing over-dependence on garments alone.

Strengthening the Economy
Beyond exports and FDI, BEPZA has contributed over BDT 1,321 crore in taxes and BDT 1,324 crore to government revenue. Around EPZs, thousands of SMEs in logistics, housing, and services have flourished, boosting inclusive growth.

Economic and social impact
Every year, BEPZA contributes nearly BDT 32,000 crore (US$ 3 billion+) directly to GDP, while per-acre contribution is estimated at BDT 10.5 crore annually. Beyond financial impact, BEPZA has created a strong SME linkage ecosystem around EPZs, fueling regional economic transformation. The authority also ensures labour welfare, where workers receive 30–40% higher wages compared to outside factories, guaranteed settlements even if factories close, and access to health and education facilities within EPZs.
