Commerce Minister opens a Bangladeshi RMG factory at Uttara EPZ

Deshbandhu Textile Mills Ltd., a new Bangladeshi readymade garments factory started its journey at Uttara EPZ under Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA). Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, as the chief guest, on 4 August 2019 formally inaugurated the factory located at Uttara EPZ, Saidpur, Nilphamari.
Commerce Minister said, Deshbandhu Textile Mills Limited will contribute a lot in creating employment opportunity in the northern region. He hoped that the factory would create additional 10 thousand employment opportunity through backward linkage industries apart from direct employment. Highlighting different facilities provided by the government to the investors the Commerce Minister said in the inaugural ceremony, “Come and invest in Bangladesh. We will provide all the services under one umbrella.”
The special guest of the program and the Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General S M Salahuddin Islam BP, SPP, ndc psc said, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established Uttara EPZ in Nilphamari district with a view to ensuring equable development as well as reducing unemployment and alleviating poverty. He said, the underprivileged area of North has turned into an industrially developed area by her prudent decision. Around taka 578 crore is being added per annum to the local economy against only wages & allowances of the workers of UEPZ which is contributing to the development of this region, he added.
Major General Salahuddin said, BEPZA is marching ahead to build an economically prosperous Bangladesh and contributing as a proud partner to materialize the Vision 2021 and 2041 of the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. BEPZA is now being lauded as Bonanza for Investment to the entrepreneurs of all over the world.
BEPZA Executive Chairman said, considering the contribution of BEPZA to the country’s economy, the government has allotted 1150 acres of land at Mirsharai, Chattogram for establishing BEPZA Economic Zone. He hoped that BEPZA Economic Zone will be operational within a year. He urged the investors to avail the investment opportunities of BEPZA EZ. He invited the buyers and their representatives to choose EPZ factory as their sourcing hub.
Mentionable that, investors from 37 countries have invested US$ 5 billion in 8 EPZs run by BEPZA. Approximately 5,22,000 Bangladeshi nationals are producing world famous brand items, of them 66% are female. The 458 operational industries of the EPZs exported goods worth US$ 75 billion.
After the inaugural session, the chief guest went round different floors of the factory. Among others, Md. Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari, Mohammad Ashraf Hossain, Superintendent of Police, S. M. Akhter Alam Mostafi, General Manager of Uttara EPZ, Md. Tanvir Hossain, General Manager (Investment Promotion), Golam Mostafa, Chairman of Deshbandhu Group including high officials of Uttara EPZ and Deshbandhu Textiles Mills were present in the program.
