Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has set a unique example by donating about 2600 bags of blood at a time in remembrance of the genocide of black night of 25th March and sacrifices of 30 lakh martyrs on the eve of 26th March Independence Day. Employees of all levels of BEPZA and the workers & employees of the enterprises of EPZs participated in the voluntary blood donation camp today (25.03.2018) organized simultaneously at BEPZA Executive office and 8 EPZs located in the different parts of the country in association of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Inspired by the success of 1200 bags of blood donation in last year, BEPZA organized the blood donation program for the second time.
Mr. Md. Nojibur Rahman, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) inaugurated the program as the Chief Guest through video conferencing connecting with 8 EPZs. He highly praised BEPZA to come forward in serving humanity through voluntary blood donation. He said, BEPZA is moving forward successfully creating favourable condition by turning adverse situation into strength. BEPZA is an iconic organization under the PMO. This noble initiative of blood donation deserves highly appreciate, he added. He hoped that dedication of the employees of BEPZA will help the country in development.
Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan, BSP, ndc, psc said BEPZA has done various welfare activities of the country as social responsibilities like the assistance to flood victims, Rohingya refugee, Nepal earthquake assistance etc. As a part of this our today’s initiative is for the remembrance of the genocide of 25th March and the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Liberation War. BEPZA is playing a pioneering role with the EPZs located in the different parts of the country in inspiring all voluntary blood donations. He said, Executive Office of BEPZA including its 8 EPZs were awarded as the best blood donor organization from Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for donating 1200 bags of blood voluntarily at a time to fulfill the urgent needs of blood for the country on 23 March, 2017. BEPZA has opened a data base blood bank site in its official website named ‘BEPZA Blood Bank’ where 70 thousand voluntaries information have preserved who are donating blood for the urgent meet up of critical patients of different parts of the country. Further, BEPZA will establish negative blood group club in each EPZ to ensure the purified blood transfusion for emergency need for negative groups.
Special Guest of the program Mr. Md. Feroz Salah Uddin, Secretary General of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society said, I salute BEPZA for setting up an example in mankind through blood donation apart from contributing in the economic development of the country. Mr. Md. Abdul Halim, Director General, Governance Innovation Unit of PMO said, efficient and vibrant employees of BEPZA are working for implementing the charter of change promised by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Among others, Mr. Zillur Rahman ndc, Member (Investment Promotion), Md. Mosaddeque Ali, Member (Engineering), Md. Mizanur Rahman, Member (Finance), Md. Nabirul Islam, Secretary and General Managers including all levels employees of BEPZA & representative of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society were present.
Mentionable that BEPZA has been contributing around 20% of both total national export and FDI for the last couple of years from the eight EPZs of the country containing only 2307.27 acres of land. Investors from 38 countries have invested US$ 4.60 billion. BEPZA exported world famous brand items worth US$ 64.06 billion from the 469 operational enterprises. 4,85,698 Bangladeshi nationals are working in the EPZs. BEPZA achieved 200.93% growth in investment, 245.68% in export, 118.60% in employment generation and 45.53% in operation of new industries in the last 9 years i.e. 2009-17 period.
